Academic Writing aims to enhance third-year undergraduate students' academic writing skills which will emphasize the essential elements of essay writing, including the five-paragraph essay, Process Analysis Essays, and Cause and Effect Essays.
Students will explore the foundations of effective academic writing, starting with the structure of the five-paragraph essay, which will serve as a model for organizing thoughts coherently. They will progress to process analysis essays, learning how to convey step-by-step information clearly and effectively. The course will also cover cause-and-effect essays, helping students analyze relationships between events and articulate their implications. Through interactive discussions and writing exercises, students will learn to brainstorm ideas, formulate clear thesis statements, and construct compelling introductions, coherent body paragraphs, and thoughtful conclusions. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of revision and editing throughout the writing process.
By the end of the course, students will have developed a comprehensive understanding of the key components of academic essays, equipping them with the skills necessary for producing clear and persuasive written work across various disciplines.
